Planning and Evaluation

Planning and Evaluation

Like people, non-profits need periodic checkups to ensure everything is working properly. And when the checkup is over, just like people, non-profits need to take steps to address problems uncovered. They can also have new ideas they want to introduce.

At CMCS, we are experts at both evaluating non-profits and developing plans to foster their well being. Those plans can be long-term or strategic, pointing your organization in the right direction. Or they can be one-year plans designed to move you incrementally towards your chosen future. The operating plans we prepare are usually for Executive Directors and their management teams, but we do plans for Boards as well. Every Board should have a year plan that is different and complementary to that of Management.

Since we set up shop as a private company in 2001, we have created over 50 plans for our customers across Ontario. Each plan starts with an evaluative component. Most of what we do is for individual non-profits, but we especially enjoy the challenge of planning for groups of agencies, and for whole service systems.

HR and Risk Management

HR and Risk Management

HR and risk management are two areas many non-profits identify as needing attention. CMCS can help you come to terms with the depth and range of these issues. We can also assist you in formulating ways to address them. A strong HR strategy, well implemented, is critical to most non-profits, since they are staff intensive, and since it is staff that deliver the services they offer.

Effective risk management helps NPOs avoid major problems that eat up time and money, and divert them from their mandate. (A good approach to risk management means you won't end up looking like the guy on the right.)

Both HR and risk management require planning. CMCS will facilitate the process, and draft the plan, adding to the discussion with knowledge obtained from its years of helping community organizations.

Training and Research

Perhaps your need is for staff or Board training. We can provide you with customized packages as part of your orientation process or for in-service development programs. You may want to research a specific issue, such as innovative approaches to residential services for your clientele, or what makes an effective mentoring program. We can do that too!

Interim Adminstration and Management Assistance

Many non-profits lack administrative and management resources. Some are new, while some have existed through the tireless contribution of volunteers. But eventually they reach the point where they need staffing. CMCS offers administrative and management assistance to small non-profits and networking groups. We are also available to fill the gap when an Executive Director leaves an organization by providing interim leadership and helping to recruit a new one.
